Engagement Tracking

Social Marketing automatically syncs engagement metrics and comments from Facebook and Instagram for all published posts. You can also manually refresh data and reply to comments directly from Progrid.

Automatic Engagement Sync

A cron job runs every 15 minutes to sync engagement data from Meta’s APIs. The sync frequency varies based on post age:

Post Age

Sync Frequency

Rationale

Less than 24 hours

Every 15 minutes

New posts get the most engagement early

1-7 days old

Every 2 hours

Engagement tapers off after the first day

7-30 days old

Every 24 hours

Long-tail engagement is infrequent

Posts older than 30 days are no longer synced automatically.

Note

Engagement sync can be enabled or disabled per company in Social Marketing ‣ Configuration ‣ Settings. Comment syncing can also be toggled independently.

Engagement Metrics

The following metrics are tracked per publishing target:

Facebook Pages:

  • Likes, Reactions (with breakdown: like, love, wow, haha, sad, angry)

  • Comments count

  • Shares count

  • Reach (unique users who saw the post)

  • Impressions (total times the post was displayed)

  • Engaged users

  • Clicks

Instagram:

  • Likes

  • Comments count

  • Reach

  • Impressions

  • Saves

The post form aggregates these across all targets in the Engagement tab and in the stat buttons at the top.

Manually Refreshing Engagement

To refresh engagement data on demand:

  1. Open a published post

  2. Click the Refresh Engagement button in the header, or click the Refresh button on a specific target in the Engagement tab

Tip

You can also refresh from the post list: select multiple published posts and use the Refresh Engagement button.

Viewing Comments

Comments synced from Facebook and Instagram are accessible in two ways:

From a post:

  1. Open the post form

  2. Click the Comments stat button

From the main menu:

  1. Navigate to Social Marketing ‣ Posts ‣ Comments

The comments list shows:

  • Author - Name or username of the commenter

  • Comment - The comment text

  • Platform - Facebook or Instagram

  • Posted - When the comment was posted

  • Likes - Number of likes on the comment

  • Replies - Number of reply comments

  • Ours - Whether the comment is a reply from your page/account

Comments are read-only – they are synced from the platforms and cannot be edited or deleted from within Progrid.

Filtering Comments

Use the search filters to find specific comments:

  • Facebook / Instagram - Filter by platform

  • Our Replies - Show only replies sent from your account

  • External Comments - Show only comments from other users

  • Top-Level Only - Hide threaded replies

Group by Target, Post, Platform, or Date for organized views.

Replying to Comments

Managers can reply to comments directly from Progrid:

  1. Navigate to the comments list or open a specific comment

  2. Click Reply on the comment row (only visible for external comments)

  3. The Reply to Comment wizard opens showing:

    • The original comment author and text

    • The platform (Facebook or Instagram)

  4. Type your reply in the Your Reply field

  5. Click Send Reply

The reply is:

  • Posted to the platform via Meta’s API

  • Recorded locally as a child comment with the Our Reply flag set

  • Visible in the comment’s Replies section

Note

You can only reply to top-level comments from other users. You cannot reply to your own page’s comments through this interface.

Viewing Posts on the Platform

For any published target, click View (the external link icon) to open the post directly on Facebook or Instagram in a new browser tab.

This is useful for:

  • Verifying the post appears correctly on the platform

  • Accessing platform-native engagement tools

  • Sharing the direct post URL with colleagues
