Troubleshooting

This guide covers common issues with calendar filtering, presets, and quick filter buttons.

Filtering Issues

Events not appearing when filter is active

Symptoms:

  • Checked a tag but expected events are not showing

  • Calendar appears empty after applying a filter

Causes:

  1. The events do not have the selected tag assigned

  2. The events are on a different date range than currently displayed

  3. The events belong to a different user (attendee filter is hiding them)

Solutions:

  1. Open one of the missing events and check its Tags field. If the tag is not assigned, add it. Filtering only works on events that have tags assigned.

  2. Navigate to the date range where the events exist. Filters persist across date navigation but do not change the visible date range.

  3. Check the attendee filters (colored checkboxes in the sidebar). Ensure the relevant users are checked. Tag filters and attendee filters work independently – both must allow the event for it to appear.

Events without tags disappear when filtering

Symptoms:

  • Activated a tag filter and untagged events disappeared

  • Only tagged events are visible

Causes:

When any tag filter is active, only events matching the selected tags are shown. Events without any tags do not match any tag filter.

Solutions:

  1. Assign tags to all events that should appear in filtered views.

  2. Create a “General” or “Uncategorized” tag and assign it to events that don’t fit other categories. Then include this tag in your presets.

  3. Clear all tag filters to see all events again, including untagged ones.

Filter resets when navigating away

Symptoms:

  • Applied a filter, navigated to another page, and the filter was gone when returning to the calendar

Causes:

Filters are session-based. Navigating away from the calendar clears the active filter unless a default preset is set.

Solutions:

Set a default preset so your preferred filter automatically reapplies when you return to the calendar. See Managing Presets.

Preset Issues

Preset not saving

Symptoms:

  • Clicked save but the preset doesn’t appear in the list

  • Error message when trying to save

Causes:

  1. Preset name is empty

  2. No tags are selected (depending on validation settings)

  3. Browser connectivity issue

Solutions:

  1. Enter a name for the preset. Names are required.

  2. Select at least one tag before saving, or verify whether your configuration allows presets with no tags.

  3. Refresh the browser and try again. Check the browser console (F12) for JavaScript errors.

Default preset not applying on calendar load

Symptoms:

  • Set a default preset but the calendar opens unfiltered

  • Default indicator shows but filters are not active

Causes:

  1. The default preset was deleted

  2. Browser cache is serving a stale page

  3. The tags in the default preset no longer exist

Solutions:

  1. Open the Preset Manager and verify a preset is marked as default. If your previous default was deleted, set a new one.

  2. Hard-refresh the browser (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) to clear the cache.

  3. Edit the default preset and verify its tags still exist. If tags were deleted from the system, the preset may reference orphaned tags.

Quick filter button missing

Symptoms:

  • Pinned a preset but no button appears above the calendar

  • Button was there before but disappeared

Causes:

  1. The preset was unpinned or deleted

  2. Browser cache issue

  3. The calendar view was customized and the Quick Filters component is not loaded

Solutions:

  1. Open the Preset Manager and verify the preset is marked as pinned.

  2. Hard-refresh the browser.

  3. Verify the Calendar Filters module is properly installed: Apps and search for “Calendar Filters”.

Cannot delete a preset

Symptoms:

  • Delete button does not respond

  • Error when trying to delete

Causes:

  1. You are trying to delete another user’s preset (not allowed)

  2. JavaScript error in the preset manager

Solutions:

  1. You can only delete your own presets. Verify the preset belongs to you.

  2. Refresh the browser and try again. Check the browser console for errors.

Performance Issues

Calendar slow after enabling filters

Symptoms:

  • Calendar takes longer to load with filters active

  • Noticeable delay when switching between presets

Causes:

Filtering large numbers of events with many tags can cause performance impact, especially if the calendar has thousands of events.

Solutions:

  1. Use more specific filters (fewer tags selected) to reduce the result set.

  2. Archive old events that are no longer relevant to reduce the total event count.

  3. Contact your system administrator if performance issues persist – the calendar view may need optimization.
